Researchers asked 1,294 adults in relationships if their partner diets or encourages them to diet. They found that about 47 percent of people said that their S.O. encouraged them to diet (anywhere from a little to a lot) and the more it was suggested, the more likely they were to adopt unhealthy or extreme weight control tactics or—on the flip side—binge eating. While this effect was stronger when women were the ones being pressured to cut back, it still had a significant impact on men in relationships. And surprisingly, men were more likely than women to report that their S.O.s encouraged them to eat less.
