As it goes, "back in my day" our social network involved a swing set, tree house, bicycles and a street light. Mom's rule, When the street light came on, that was our que to head home. If someone needed to call home, it was simple- ask your friend or neighbor if they would let you use their phone and they always did. As our oldest kid (11) talks about all her friends with smartphones, and how she needs one too because "eveyrone else" has one, we just keep on fighting the good fight. As I believe, sitting in front of a screen is NOT social networking. We may not be seen as "cool parents" by giving gifts that aren't connected to a wifi network, but playing Twister and riding scooters requires more than creating a screen name- they require movement. ~ ditch
