First of all- it SUCKS donkey **** that the Hostess employees have lost their gigs. Evidentaly this industry isn't big enough for a government / taxpayer bail out. Or is it because their product doesn't match the administration's healthy eating agenda. Well regardless, like most of the brands they made, I hope they return to work and the shelves soon.
With the closure of Hostess Brands, such snack-time favorites as Twinkies, cupcakes, Ho-Hos, Suzy Q's, Donettes and Ding Dongs have dissapeared from shelves today.
But the absence will likely be only temporary. Though the Hostess Company has closed, it is actually going to be liquidated, with the recipes and trademarks for its popular products being sold to another company that will revive them before long.
A few facts about Twinkies:
- The Twinkie was invented in 1930.
- The bottom of a Twinkie is actually the top during baking.
- Twinkies cannot last 25 years. The shelf life is actually less than a month.
- The original filling was banana creme. It was changed during World War Two due to banana rationing.
